Welcome to the official page for requesting permission to remarry in the Coptic Orthodox Diocese of the Southern United States. Please ensure you read all the guidelines and fill out the form accurately. Your request will be reviewed by the Clergical Council.

- To initiate a case where the applicant AND former spouse BOTH currently reside within the Diocese of the Southern USA:
- To APPEAL a existing case or to initiate a case where EITHER the applicant or former spouse currently reside outside of the Diocese of the Southern USA:
NOTE: The Diocese of the Southern USA comprises 11 states: Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Tennessee, and Texas.
Process
The process below is intended only for cases filed within the jurisdiction of the Diocese of the Southern USA.
- The applicant submits the Remarriage Permission Form online. The applicant is required to enter contact information (self, spouse, priests), upload the civil divorce certificate, personal testimony, and supporting documents, and sign the Release of Liability. The process will not be initiated by the Clergical Council unless this step is fully completed.
- Once the documents are gathered, the case will be reviewed by the Clergical Council of the applicant’s respective region.
- A clergy member (priest) from the Clergical Council will be assigned to the case and will contact the applicant to facilitate interviews with the applicant and former spouse.
- After the conclusion of interviews, the Clergical Council will reconvene to decide on the case and notify the applicant and his/her priest(s) of the council’s decision.
